Test Results
Posted by Jacq in Test Results on December 7, 2008
We have received the results of Snowball’s genetic tests. She has tested negative for all the diseases, including PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) which can be found in some British Shorthairs. The sire is also PKD negative, so all kittens are free of this genetic defect.
She is blood type A, carrying b, which means some of her kittens will be B blood group since the sire of the litter is B. All kittens will be tested for blood group before going to their new homes. This means if your kitten ever needs a transfusion (and we hope they never do!), you’ll be able to tell your vet immediately and they won’t have to waste time testing.
Tests like these are now widely available and have become more affordable in recent times. It is absolutely vital we use these tools to ensure the kittens we’re breeding are healthy and live long, happy lives.
We test our cats through Shelterwood Laboratories in Texas, USA.
